The library Mission: Since its establishment in 1990, as the first private academic library in Jordan, the library closely linked to the educational and instructional process at the university, to support and to promote high academic standards in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. To achieve its goals the library seeks to develop the relevance and effectiveness of its collection and to enhance and improve the capabilities, skills and expertises of the library staff by training and providing them with up to date information to create a new behavior approach which leads to improve the quality services.    

The Library Site The library is located in three buildings, with total area of sq m. 4800.

  • 1. The Central library, which is located in AL-Farabi Building, accommodates The Administration Sections of the library ,and also includes the collections covers the topics related to Faculty of IT, and Faculty of Law.
  • 2. Library “B” which is located in AL-Khawarismi Building includes the collection covering the topics related to Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences.
  • 3. Library “E” which is located in Faculty of Art Building includes the collections covering the topics related to the Faculties of Art, Engineering, and Pharmacy.

Library Organization The library organization structure consists of three sections.

  • 1- Acquisition Section is in charge of providing the library with new materials (Printed and non printed ) by purchasing presentation and publication exchange programs with various universities and scientific institutions.
  • 2- The cataloguing and Classification Section is responsible for technical process related to classification , cataloguing and indexing of library materials, using the International Standards for Bibliographical Description: Anglo –American Cataloguing Rules along with Dewey Decimal Classification System.
  • 3- Library Services Section: the main function of this section is to help the faculty members , students, staff and others to use the different resources through library service.
    • Library Holdings: The library has a collection of more than 77500 volumes of books and 340 current specialized periodicals in Arabic and Foreign Languages, through subscriptions, gifts and exchange in addition to more than three thousand Internet accessible tittles and more than four thousand volumes of periodicals back issues and More than 750 items of non–printed materials. These collections include:

      • Arabic and non- Arabic books and references.
      • Arabic and non Arabic periodicals.
      • Electronic Journals.
      • Government and UN publications.
      • Theses and dissertation.
      • Audiovisual materials, which consist of CD/ROMs, Cassettes, Disks, Videotapes, etc.
      • Online Database (Academic Search Premier) via EBSCOHOST .
      • Online Database (Computer Source) via EBSCOHOST.
      • Online Database ( Professional Development Collection ) via EBSCOHOST.

      Library Automation: Library started the automation project at the beginning of 1992 through using CD/ISIS system, then we have used Minisis System since 1994 and now we are looking forward to have a new integrated information system with a fully automated functions from ordering to check out and check in of materials and services, such as:

      • The Acquisition functions
      • The circulation and Inter-library loan systems.
      • The bibliographical Services
      • Periodicals check-in system.
      • WEB enabled on-line access to the library database for the  academic staff and students. 


      Library Services: The library provides various services to assist the faculty members , students and interested researchers  from outside the university, in their search for information:

      Technical Services: includes all procedures related to technical
                  operations such as classification , cataloging,
               indexing, etc.

      Users Services: Receiving questions, inquires and sending the answers by phone , post, fax ,email. Orientation tours and library instructions: the library can offer:

      • Individual Orientation.
      • Orientation to any class in the University ,by appointment with class instructor.
      • General information literacy training as well as subject specific information instructions.
      • Training sessions on an individual basic and systematically on using the electronic resources.
      • Training students on the methods of organizing the library collection according to Dewey Decimal Classification System.


      Reference Services: reference services presented at the Reference Desk includes how to use references collections such as:

      • Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Directories, Thesis, Dissertations, etc.
      • Print indexes, abstracts.
      • Electronic resources.
      • CD/ROMs and Electronic Databases
      Current Awareness: This service provide faculty updated information on new arrivals of books, periodicals, and electronic databases in their fields.

      Library Circulation: The library is opened to all who which to benefit from its resources, anyone of the faculty members, students can have library membership by presenting one photo to obtain a library ID card at the Circulation Desk to borrow materials from the library collection as the following:

      Renewal will be for the same time period as the original loan. Fines will apply to any late returns or loss items.

      Inter-loan Library (ILL):  It is a serve through which library borrows books and acquires photocopies of articles from other libraries and  in turn supplies books and photocopies to other libraries. The philosophy of ILL is to complement the sources of the library.

      Internet Services: The Internet services are available to all users since 2002. A special halls within the library has been allocated with 30 PCs so as to facilitate access to holding of libraries in Jordan and international digital electronic access libraries such  as British Library, Library of Congress, etc. through the online information system in the university that provide faculty members and students with no –charge access.

      Reserve Services: Special materials placed on Circulation Desk according to faculty’s recommendation  can be used or photocopied in the  library or can be  borrowed by students overnight , within one hour of closing time and returned within one hour of the library’s next open.

      Photocopy Services: Three photocopying machines are available for use in the library, the photocopying services made by the photocopying employee. Students are asked to pay (25) Fils per page.

      Opening Hours: Library is opened (Sunday –Thursday) from 8:30am to 4:00pm, except “Library B” which is opened from 8:30am to 8:00pm.
